Q12 of 24 Page 19

Why was every election won by the party called PRI in China? Explain any three reasons.

Though the elections are held regularly in China, but the emerging winner party is only one i.e.

• The Chinese Constitution authorizes the Communist party complete political authority and powers to govern the Country.

• Though China has legislature known as National People’s Congress, this is controlled and comprises of the Communist Party.

• The contestants of the election must take permission or approval from the Communist Party prior to the contest.

• Though elections are held regularly after every 5 years, the people of China do not directly appoint the government. They need to select the one that has been already chosen by the ruling party, i.e. The Communist Party.

Hence this shows that in China, the one-party rule exists and people have a lesser say in the election.
