What are different measures taken to ensure a free and fair election in India?

The Representation of The People Act 1950, was enacted that contains the code of conduct of the elections (qualifications, disqualifications for the membership, the corrupt practices, other election offences).

The Model Code of Conduct was agreed, where EC ensure free and fair election. (There are a certain set of guidelines for the political parties and leaders, which they need to abide by or else it leads to disqualification of their candidature).


1. The contestants cannot bribe the voters or threaten them.


2. They cannot use religion or caste as a tool to gain votes.


3. The election commission is the body that regulates the election process.
