Identify the challenges of the adolescent population before society. Enlist a few measures to overcome these problems.

People between the ages of 10 to 19 are termed as adolescents. The adolescent population in India is about 243 million.


The following are the challenges faced by the adolescent population:


1. Many of the children in the adolescent group are married at an early age.


2. Many adolescent girls are devoid of their education as it is considered an unnecessary expense.


3. Today’s adolescents need proper guidance without which the possibility of committing crimes, use of drugs and alcohol are more.


4. Many of the adolescents are poorly nourished due to poverty and other reasons.


5. Even though the adolescents are highly talented, they are not utilized properly in a constructive way.


6. There is a National Youth Policy which emphasises on the all-round development of the adolescent population.


7. This policy stresses on the empowerment of women as a measure to eradicate the gender disparity.


8. The adolescent population is encouraged to take part in active sports and recreational activities.


9. Awareness is created about the day to day improvements in the field of science and technology, trade and commerce etc.,


10. Many children are offered admission in schools under the Right to Education Act.


11. Campaigns are held to overcome health issues such as vaccination camps.


These are some of the measures to overcome the challenges faced by the adolescent population of the country.
