Kushana rulers projected the notions of kingship and exemplified their high status in two ways:


• They established colossal statues of themselves in a shrine at Mat near Mathura and Afghanistan. This portrayed the divinity of kings.


• They adopted titles such as devaputra or “son of God” as they considered themselves godlike and sons of heaven.
