As Freda, write a letter to your friend about your happy times with Marian and the games you play with her.

Dear Friend,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I got your letter yesterday and was overwhelmed to know that you won the badminton competition. Congratulations on that. I am writing to you to tell you about my new friend Marian.

Marian is my neighbour. She is lovely, with dark curls framing her small pointed face, dark serious eyes and full, sensitive lips. But she is different. She is deaf and dumb. Yes I know you will be surprised to know that too just the way I was. When her mother told me about this even I was surprised and then went back home and realised why she didn’t mingle with other children and how much she would have longed for a friends company. I went back to her and shared my dolls with her. Her mother had already told me that she understood sign language and used to play school with her dolls. I did the same and our classroom looked bigger and brighter with more students to teach. I played the assistant teacher whereas she was the principal who pretended to be sitting in her office. Playing with her I learnt patience and she makes a really good company.
