What is the fear in the poet's mind?

The growing age of the mother was becoming a matter of concern and worry for the poet. The poet’s mind was occupied with the fear of losing her mother. Her mother was losing vitality and radiance. She compared her with the late winter’s moon as both were approaching the end of their life. Winter being the last season in the cycle is used a symbol for dormancy. The poet’s mind was not willing to accept the universal truth that everyone who is born must die some day. This has been every child’s fear of losing their elderly loved ones, later or sooner in life.
