Q2 of 15 Page 84

After the poet boards a flight to Cochin, she is worried and apprehensive about her mother's failing health. As Kamla Das, write a page of about 120 words in her diary.

Dear diary,

I haven’t been writing for a while because you know I went to visit my mother. Now I am in a flight to Cochin with a heavy heart and couldn’t resist writing it down. Not a long time back I bid farewell to my mom at the airport’s security check without the assurance of being able to see her again. I have been horrified at the thought of her not being around me and want to be with her all the time. This thought has disturbed me so deeply that even on my way I was forced to turn my attention away from her. With growing age, her health is deteriorating day by day. For the time being I have appointed a nurse who would look after her all the time in my absence. Once I get down at Cochin I would immediately make arrangements to either shift my job to my mother’s place or to resign from it. If this state of mind continues then soon it will start affecting my health and in this condition I wouldn’t be able to focus on anything around. I want to be around my mom for as long as I can.

With love,

Kamla

A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is, on some point of comparison, the same as another otherwise unrelated object.

The poem uses two similes and a metaphor. Pick them out and explain what the two things have in common in each of these cases.
