What is the kind of pain and ache that the poet feels?

The poet, while leaving her parents’ home, observes her mother’s pale face. The poet describes her mother’s passing age with the late winters moon and a strong comparison to a corpse. Her mother had lost all vitality and color and contrasts with the scene outside the cars window i.e of merry children spilling out of their homes. Such thoughts bring back her childhood fear of losing her mother and disturbs her mental peace as it would for anyone else. She continuously tries to put away the thought of losing her mother but fails to accept the same. Her parting gesture of smile also depicts the turmoil that is created within her.
