What is the sight that has triggered that fear?

The poem starts with the poet driving to the airport. While driving she notices her mother whom she compared to an ashen corpse. She makes a comparison between life and death, vitality and paleness. She was disturbed by the thought of her mother aging and couldn’t get rid of her fear of losing her mother. As a result, she turns away from her mother and looks out of the car. Even there she looks at the young trees sprinting and compares it to her mother. She has compared images of merry children playfully enjoying with her ageing mother dozing off beside her. Childhood marks the beginning of life and shows vitality whereas old age marks the approaching end of life.
