Q1 of 41 Page 164

Discuss the part played by Cade and Carter in shaping Freddie's life by referring to the play "Teacher, Teacher".

The play “Teacher, Teacher” is a comparison between two teachers and their style of teaching. There are two teachers Hamilton Cade and Carter. Hamilton Cade is a trained teacher and carter was an ex-US Air force officer. The story is about a boy Freddie who is thirteen year old but is a slow learner as a result of which he is taught by two teachers. Hamilton Cade was a professionally skilled and experience teacher who manages to explain Freddie alphabets and small words. However, his attempt to make study interesting for Freddie to learn fails. On the contrary, Carter takes Freddie through a practical and joyous world. Cade makes use of flash cards and pictures to teach simple words whereas Carter taught Freddie how to use a jack, move a screwdriver, make a small house, read with a helper and write simple words. Cade was more focused on teaching Freddie how to read and write because he felt that it was important to face the practical world. Carter took efforts to bring his nephew, Joey to Putnam’s estate so that Freddie would interact with a boy of his age.
