"Quality" establishes and upholds dignity of labor and the spiritual character of craftsman. In his story “Quality” John Galsworthy presents a German shoemaker Mr. Gessler, the younger as an epitome of honest craftsmanship. He was an example of the true artists who struggle to survive in this era of strong competiotion, marketing and advertisement. For Gessler quality was always of utmost importance. He used to take several days and sometimes even weeks to deliver the narrator’s shoes because he didn’t want to compromise with the quality. He was always honest to his profession and believed in customer satisfaction to be the most important thing in a business. The story depicts how true craftsmen like Gessler brothers struggle for a living. Gessler brothers had made their place in the hearts of their loyal customers though they couldn’t be rewarded financially.
