What were the hardships faced by the Adivasis?

● Adivasi refers to the ‘original inhabitant’. These are the communities who have lived in close association to the forests.


● They were pushed out of their forests in Jharkhand and had to migrate to other parts of the country.


● They had faced extreme conditions and even death in this migration.5 lakh Adivasis had lost their homes.


● Many of them were displaced when the forest area was being cut due to mining.


● After 1947, many dams were built. This led to the submerging of many forests.


● Many Adivasis were removed from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh


● In some areas, their land was taken over the military.


● There were 54 national parks and 372 wildlife sanctuaries in India covering an area of 1, 09, 652 sqkm. The Adivasis were evicted from these areas.
