Q3 of 66 Page 12

Mark the Correct alternative in the following:

If 10n + 3 × 4n + 2 + λ is divisible by 9 for all n ∈ N, then the least positive integral value of λ is

Given 10n+3 ×4n+2+λ is divisible by 9

For n=1,

10 + 3 × 43 + λ

10 + 3 × 64 + λ

= 202 + λ

202 when divided by 9 gives remainder 4

For n=2,

102 + 3 × 44 + λ

=100 + 3 × 256 + λ

=868 + λ

868 when divided by 9 gives remainder 4

؞ λ = 4 + 1 = 5

Mark the Correct alternative in the following:

A student was asked to prove a statement P(n) by induction. He proved P (k + 1) is true whenever P(k) is true for all k > 5 ∈ N and also P(5) is true. On the basis of this he could conclude that P(n) is true.
