Different component of map are:

Title: It indicates the purpose or theme of the map. Example: India-Physical.


Scale: It is a ratio between the actual distances on the map to the actual distance on the ground. Scales can be represented in three method; Statement, Representative Fraction and Linear or Geographical scale methods.


Direction: Cardinal directions are the directions north, east, south and west. Map is indicated by North-South line direction in which north direction is represented by an arrow head.


Grid System: System which is used to show location on a map in many topographical sheets with the help of set of lines along with alphanumeric codes is known as grid system.


Projection: When spherical shaped earth is shown on a flat piece of paper then it is known as projection.


Legend: It helps to understand the information in a map.


Conventional signs and symbols: It is the standard symbols used on a map. It gives variety of information and makes map clearer.
