GPS stands for Global Positioning System. It is a measuring tool. It is an infrastructure in which satellites send signals to GPS receiver and GPS receiver track the data and location.

The major uses of GPS:

*GPS technology is used in mobile phones, watches, bulldozers and ATMs.

*It helps in providing accurate transport data like distance, route and direction.

*It helps in military searches and rescue in war.

*It can work as a reliable tourist guide.

*With the help of GPS weather forecasting, earthquake monitoring can be done easily.

GPS was initially developed for military purposes. It can be used to find anyone with a tracker anywhere in the world. It was being developed so that the military would have better capabilities on the ground to keep on target. It could also be used to help find lost soldiers and to more quickly locate the wounded.
