What was the background for the storming of Bastille Prison?

The Bastille prison was stormed and razed to the ground by armed peasant forces on 14 July 1789, for the following reason:

1. After the members of The Third Estate refused to bow in front of the nobility or the king during the Estates General, the King ordered to throw these men out of the hall.

2. The rebellious lot gathered at the Tennis Court and took the oath to not disperse until the king granted them a constitution.

3. The King saw them as a threat, and ordered the army to use force to disperse the masses. The army refused. So, the King decided to call in help from the neighbouring kingdoms.

4. This act was seen as reprehensible by the masses, who stormed the Bastille Prison with pitchforks and other tools, and set all the prisoners free. This was the turning point in the French Revolution.
