In Fig. 8.42, a is greater than b by one third of a right angle. Find the values of a and b.

a +b = 180o (Linear pair)

a =180o - b (i)


Now, given that


a = b + * 90o


a = b + 30o (ii)


a – b = 30o


Equating (i) and (ii), we get


180o – b = b + 30o


150o = 2b


b = 75o


Hence, a = 180o – b


= 105o
