Examine the significance of ‘Land’ as a locational factor for rural settlements in the world.

‘Land’ is an important locational factor for rural settlements in the world. People engaged in the agricultural activities prefer to settle near fertile lands so that agriculture is carried out smoothly. In Europe the villages were formed in areas near the country to avoid swampy and low lying lands. On the other hand, people living in South East Asia preferred to live near low lying rivers and coastal plains which made it more suitable for conducting wet rice cultivation. Among them the ones who settled early chose to live in plain areas that had fertile soils.
