Why is conservation and management of water resources essential in India? Explain any three steps taken to conserve water resources.

We know that the total composition of water is around 70% but the availability of fresh water resources is only 2%. The entire population is dependent on the limited availability of water. The conservation of water becomes more important as the population is increasing seamlessly and consequently the consumption of water is increasing with no subsequent increase in the source of water. Water is one of the most precious resources and must be used judiciously. The management of water becomes essential as there are many places where water is not adequately available while others are wasting it. Water is also majorly used in production processes, consumption and agricultural activities like irrigation. The steps that can be taken for conserving water resources are as follows:

1. Rainwater harvesting means using the water from rain for consumption or other activities.

2. Turn off taps when not in use and don’t let water to overflow from tanks.

3. Check for leaks and get it repaired immediately.
