Cleanliness is the Responsibility of All

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I Keshav of class 12 will recite a speech on the importance of cleanliness. I am here today out of concern about the cleanliness of parks, roads and even our school premises.

In spite of various measures taken by local and school administration, lack of cleanliness is still a problem. I will start by explaining where exactly the problem is and then we shall discuss what are the causes behind those and try to devise effective solutions for it. Cleanliness can be spread in the simplest way by keeping our own surrounding clean. Each one of us sees unclean parks, roads and schools. It has become a very common sight for our eyes and it is not wrong to say that we ourselves have contributed to such an environment. There are bins installed on the roads but they are usually left overflowing with garbage. Garbage overflow has also led to blockage of many sewers. We Indians have formed a habit of throwing away the garbage wherever they wish to. On the other hand, when we travel to foreign countries we often praise the well-maintained and clean roads and there we dispose off any waste properly. This is simply ignorance and lack of civic sense. No cleanliness drives will work until we are ready to implement it. Somewhere it is also because of lack of severe administration. If we refer to foreign countries again, they have strict fines and penalties imposed on littering the roads. Similarly, if such laws are made in our country at least out of fear of being penalised people will stop littering the surroundings. Another support can come from the media as it is a very effective and useful source for spreading awareness.

The Prime Minister had launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan with a view of cleaner India and it is progressing but not as expected. Cleanliness is not just one person’s responsibility but should be performed by all. We should start by keeping our surrounding clean and not throwing any garbage except dustbins. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience. I hope I was able to successfully convey my message.

Stray dogs should not be put to sleep

(Against the motion)

Dogs too are God’s creation and have the right to live. Therefore, today I speak against the motion that stray dogs should not be put to sleep. Humans are the dominant race of earth while animals occupy the second position. There are many animals who find shelter in the jungle or zoo while others are left to survive however they may. Here comes in the principle of ‘survival of the fittest’. The ones who are able to find food and arrange shelter for them are the ones who survive. Among such animals are dogs.

Dogs are usually seen as stray animals roaming about on the streets. Most people dislike them because they are unclean and bark on suspecting something unusual. While the others who consider themselves “dog lovers” hardly give any attention to the street dogs and spend a huge sum of money to buy a dog from the pet shop and raise them. In reality they do not raise dogs out of love but use it to boost their social standards. While the street dogs seek love there are hardly people who sensitise towards them.

Some people who understand their situation feed them daily and take care of them even if they are not their pets in particular. As a solution, we should try to stop roaming of these dogs on roads by ways of adoption and not put a stop on their sleep. Sleep is a natural life process and just like humans who do not have shelter sleep on roads, these animals do the same.

Stray dogs should not be put to sleep

(For the motion)

Dogs are also creations of God but they do not have the power of logical thinking like humans. They are unable to differentiate between what is good for them and what is not. Today I speak for the motion that stray dogs should not be put to sleep.

They start barking when they see people around them or find anything unusual which frightens many. At the same time, they may also bite an individual who did nothing to the dog. Does adoption solve the problem? Raising dogs is a possible solution but at the same time it consumes a lot of time, money and efforts. They should not be put to sleep on roads. There are places like rehabilitation centres which provide shelters to dogs and also a choice to adopt them. But how many people actually assume this responsibility? Some people may be comfortable by raising dogs while others might not be. In such situations, if a person adopts a stray dog he/she does it at the cost of other person’s peace. The major problem that stray dogs create by sleeping on roads is accidents. In this both the dog and the car driver have to face injury which is fatal for them.

Roads where these dogs sleep are meant for vehicles to move and not a place for their sleep. As a solution, there can be separate places designated for stray dogs to live so that they get sleep and people are not bothered by their existence too.
