Balancing Academics and Sports

A very good morning to one and all present here. Today I Vinita will be reciting a speech on the topic that is very much related to our lives, ‘Balancing Academics and Sports’.

The choice of this topic for today’s morning assembly is just to emphasise on the need to be participative in activities other than studies and its importance. There must be so many individuals among us who prioritise studies over everything and it is not a bad element at all. In fact, knowledge is the source for opening so many new doors of opportunities for an individual. But often career conscious students focus primarily on academics and neglect participation in games and sports, not realising how important physical activities are. Such students need to understand that physical activities help in building up the most valuable asset for life i.e. health. Without having a good health no individual will be able to do any productive activities, be it studying or working. If a student is able to maintain academics along with sports, he/she is deemed to be successful in life.

To conclude, I must say that in a day everyone must take out at least an hour for themself and perform any physical activity that interests them because even this is contributing to the shaping of your future. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience.

21st century is an age of greed (For the motion)

The simplest and the easiest way to define the 21st century is to state that it is an age of greed. And yes I am in total agreement with this statement and speak in favour of the motion that ‘21st century is an age of greed’.

Life in 21st century is full of material needs and comforts. A person is judged on the basis of his status and class in the society and he makes every effort by going beyond his capacity to satisfy his need of social recognition. For this he goes off limits and does all the show off possible. To add a cherry on the cake, social media plays a very vital role in making the 21st century an age of greed. People tend to not only follow celebrities or rich people on social media but also try to adopt their lifestyle. Since the individual does not have sufficient means to meet that standard of living it gives rise to greed and thirst for money. In turn this drives a person to do wrong things and indulge in unlawful activities. Not only this, people incur huge losses or debts in the maintenance of their status in the society.

Everyone wishes to have a good quality of life and enjoy everything they wish to. But becoming greedy for the fulfilment of personal motives is not the sign of an ethical person. Today the society is full of such people and so using the term ‘greedy’ is nowhere incorrect.

21st century is an age of greed (Against the motion)

The 21st century has witnessed so many major developments and changes be it in terms of technology or economically. But it is incorrect to term it as an age of greed. Therefore, I speak against the motion that 21st century is an age of greed.

If we look back to few years, the income of people and the value of money were not as much as it is today. An income of 10,000-15,000 was considered sufficient for the sustenance of a small family. But today the value of money has changed. It would be difficult to afford even basic amenities like food, clothing and shelter in such a small income. So in order to maintain the same standard of living the individual has to spend more. This spending is either made by the savings of the individual that will exhaust soon or the person is left with no other option but to earn more. This need of earning more cannot be termed as greed because it is necessity. Also, if the observe the trend in the recent years with the rise in the income of people, the amount of donations have also gone up. If a person is able to keep aside a good portion of his income as his savings then he prefers to spend some of his income in the betterment of the society. In this way more income contributes positively to the society.

So it is a matter of fact that the 21st century is an era of development and not greed. The two terms should not be confused with each other.
