Importance of Civic Sense
A very good morning to one and all present here. Today, I Sonu of class 12 will recite a speech on the importance of civic sense. The reason behind choosing this topic for the morning assembly is that it is a very basic element in our life which is being ignored.
Respect for law, concern for others and maintaining a clean environment are some of the qualities of a civilized person. It is sad that we do not pay much attention to them. To understand the importance of civic sense let us first understand what is civic sense? It refers to social manners and following certain ethical practices in regular life. Few examples of such practices are keeping the environment clean, crossing roads through zebra crossing, wearing a seat belt or helmet while driving. It does not necessarily mean rules and laws which have been imposed but also manners which are a part of human’s. It speaks for the person as well their background and country. When we visit foreign countries we often praise their behaviour and their level of maintenance of roads and the environment. But we fail to realise that it is not only the government who is working after it. If the people cooperate with the government and fulfil their responsibilities voluntarily it makes a country far better than the others. The Government has larger issues to address and therefore we cannot blame it on them. It is our responsibility as individuals to inculcate civic sense and also try to correct anyone whom we see doing wrong.
Throughout our lives we have been taught manners and etiquettes, be it in school by our teachers or at home by our parents. So we must take some lessons from it and understand its importance. Many times we ignore it because we think that everyone is doing it so why should be only be the ones to change? But if each one of us pledges to maintain a good civic sense and implement it in our daily lives then people around us will also learn to do it. We should assume this responsibility from today itself and take a step towards bringing a big change. Thank you for being such a wonderful audience. I hope I was able to successfully convey my message.

Money is the only thing that matters in today’s life (For the motion)
Money is that thing which can buy you anything in life. I believe that in today’s life money is the only thing that matters the most and therefore I speak for the motion. Have you seen any person without money living a happy life? Money gives a person ‘purchasing power’ which is very necessary in today’s world to lead a happy life.
People have raised arguments stating that there are many things in life which cannot be bought from money. To this, I say there is hardly anything in today’s life that money cannot buy. If it is health that one argues upon then money lets one to afford a good treatment and cure the person with medicines. Without it, no one in this society would be able to cure an ailing person. People who state that money cannot buy happiness are wrong too because in today’s world, happiness is equated with material things and money has the power to let one buy it. Money gives a person respect and status in the society. The society admires rich people and also looks at them as their life goals. Today even if you ask a child if he/she wants to travel in a public transport or a private car, the answer would obviously be a car.
It is not incorrect to say that money is the solution to almost all problems today. With money an individual has health facilities, education, housing and all other luxuries of life. If money wouldn’t be the most precious thing then why would everyone spend their lives earning it?
Money is the only thing that matters in today’s life (For the motion)
The desire to acquire money is the root cause of all evils in the society. Therefore, I speak against the motion that money is the only thing that matters in today’s life. Money is capable of only buying material happiness but above it we must remember that we are humans and what make us different from the other races are our emotions.
If we look back in time, money was introduced to facilitate easy exchange of commodities. Today people are using it illegally for getting things done by bribing the person and showing off their power through money. A person might find temporary happiness in his/her material possessions but after a certain point the satisfaction derived from it will diminish and then what we need is something that money cannot buy. I ask everyone, can money buy the love of parents? It is necessary to fulfil our basic requirements like food, shelter and clothing. Everyone should have a minimum savings to support their life in case of emergency but this does not mean that a person makes hoarding money as his/her only motive in life. We have seen rich families with a lot of money lacking personal attachments. Such people go out with others to socialise and spend quality time because internally they feel isolated.
Money might buy happiness for some people but it will never be able to buy satisfaction. Money cannot turn a dead person alive. It is necessary to realise what is more important than the blind quest for money. An individual must think rationally and understand how much of it is good for them.
