What do you understand by amniocentasis? Why is there a statutory ban on this? Give reason.

Amniocentesis is a test based on the chromosomal pattern in the amniotic fluid surrounding the developing embryo. This technique is used to determine any chromosomal disorders in the embryo.


There is a statutory ban on this technique because this technique can also be used to determine the sex of the foetus which causes female foeticides, massive child immunisation, etc.
