Differentiate between a detritivore and a decomposer giving an example of each.

Decomposers break down the complex organic matter into inorganic substances like carbon dioxide, water and nutrients. This process is called decomposition. Examples – bacteria, fungi, etc


Detritivores are the organisms which break down detritus (dead remains of plants and animals) into smaller particles. This process is called fragmentation. Examples – earthworm, sea cucumbers, etc.
