The higher stability of Cu2+ ion in aqueous solution is due to its negative charge compared to Cu. It compensates the second ionization enthalpy of Cu involved in the formation of Cu2+ ions.


(ii) Since transition metals have unfilled or partially filled d-orbitals, in order to satisfy its octet, they form complex compounds.
