Write the characteristics of all three types of cropping seasons.

The three separate cropping seasons in India are as follows:

(A) Kharif Crop Season – The attributes of Kharif crop season are:

(i) It initiates with the onset of South-West monsoons

(ii) Usually, it prevails between the months of June to September.

(iii) The main crops cultivated in this season include Jute, Bajra, Rice, Cotton, Tur as well as other tropical crops.

(B) Rabi Crop Season – The attributes of Rabi crop season are:

(i) It initiates with the onset of winters.

(ii) Usually, it initiates in October as well as November and ends in March to April.

(iii) The main crops cultivated in this season include Wheat, Rapeseeds, Barley, Gram and Mustard.

(C) Zaid Crop Season – The attributes of Zaid crop season are:

(i) It is a short duration cropping season initiating after harvesting of Rabi crops and prevailing between Rabi as well as Kharif cropping season in India.

(ii) Usually, it prevails between the months of April to June.

(iii) The main crops cultivated in this season include watermelons, vegetables, fodder crops and cucumbers. They are cultivated majorly on irrigation lands.
