How is the degradation of cultivable land one of the serious problem in India?

Among the serious issues that arise out of faulty strategies of agricultural development as well as irrigation is degradation of land resources. It is one of the major problems in India as:

(A) In regions with unregulated and over-irrigation, a larger tract of agricultural land lost the fertility of the soil because of salinization as well as alkalisation of soils, in addition to waterlogging.

(B) Surplus employment of chemicals like pesticides as well as insecticides has resulted in their concentration in toxic quantities in the soil profile.

(C) Leguminous crops are displaced by commercial crops like sugarcane from cropping pattern due to which natural fertilisation procedures of soil such as nitrogen fixation is obliterated.

(D) Rain-fed areas also tend to experience degradation of various kinds like wind erosion and soil erosion by water which are frequently induced via human activities.
