Q9 of 12 Page 5

Explain in short six land use categories in India.

Under land revenue records, land use categories tend to be as follows:

(A) Forest – Within land revenue records, forests are the areas that are identified as well as demarcated for forest growth.

(B) Land Put to Uses that are Non-Agricultural – Within this category, all land which is not employed in agriculture is included. For example, roads, shops, settlement, industries, canals, etc.

(C) Barren and Wastelands – This category typically includes all that land which is incapable of being cultivated. It, thus, includes the unproductive land.

(D) Area Under Permanent Pastures as well as Grazing Lands – This kind of land is commonly found in the outer area of rural settlements wherein villagers graze their animals.

(E) Culturable Wasteland – It involves land which can be employed to cultivate crops via land reclamation as well as other land quality enhancement techniques.

(F) Current Fallow – It includes the land wherein cultivation is not practised for a year or less than a year.
