Cross-multiplying, we get


⇒ (16 – x) (x + 1) = 15x


⇒ 16x + 16 – x2 – x = 15x


⇒ x2 – 16 = 0


⇒ x2 = 16


⇒ x = ± 4


∴ The solutions of x are 4 and -4.
