Q1 of 119 Page 157

Consider the following two equations:

(A)

and (B)

In a noninertial frame

Equation A is position of centre of mass. Which is irrespective of motion of frame, where as equation B is second law of Newtonian mechanics and we know that laws of motion doesn’t hold in noninertial frame. So, option C is correct.

A van is standing on a frictionless portion of a horizontal road. To start the engine, the vehicle must be set in motion in the forward direction. How can the persons sitting inside the van do it without corning out and pushing from behind?

25

In one-dimensional elastic collision of equal masses, the velocities are interchanged. Can velocities in a one-dimensional collision be interchanged if the masses are not equal?

2

Consider the following two statements:

(A) Linear momentum of the system remains constant.

(B) Centre of mass of the system remains at rest.

3

Consider the following two statements:

(A) Linear momentum of a system of particles is zero.

(B) Kinetic energy of a system of particles is zero.
