The energy of a system in simple harmonic motion is given by Which of the following two statements is more appropriate?

(A) The energy is increased because the amplitude is increased.


(B) The amplitude is increased because the energy is increased.


By looking at the equation given above, both the statements looks correct but statement B is more appropriate. As the energy increases, the amplitude increases. It is because as the amplitude increases it balances the increment in the energy of the system. Therefore, increase in energy leads to increase in amplitude.
