Q5 of 47 Page 1

If and x = -3 are roots of the quadratic equation ax2 + 7x + b = 0, find the values of a and b.

It is given in the question that,

ax2 + 7x + b = 0 is the quadratic equation having two roots

From the equation, we have

a = a, b = 7 and c = b

We know that,

Sum of roots =

- 7a = - 21

Also, we know that

Product of roots =

b= -6

Hence, a = 3 and b = -6
