A bag contains 3 red and 5 black balls. A ball is drawn at random from the bag. What is the probability that the drawn ball is not red?

Given:

Red Balls = 3

White Balls = 5

Total number of balls = Red Balls + White Balls

⇒ Total number of balls = 3 + 5

⇒ Total number of balls = 8

∵ One ball can be chosen in 8 ways

∴ Total number of elementary events = 8

∵ there are 5 black (not red) balls

∴ one can be chosen 1 black (not red) ball can be chosen in 5 ways

i.e., Favourable number of elementary events = 5

Hence, probability that the drawn ball is not red
