Q21 of 47 Page 1

Solve for x :

Taking LCM,

By Transposition,

⇒ 4(2x2 + 2) = 17(x2 – 2x)

⇒ 8x2 + 8 = 17x2 – 34x

⇒ 17x2 – 8x2 – 34x – 8 = 0

⇒ 9x2 – 34x – 8 = 0

⇒ 9x2 – 36x + 2x – 8 = 0

⇒ 9x(x – 4) + 2(x – 4) = 0

⇒ (9x + 2)(x – 4) = 0

This gives 2 equations,

i. 9x + 2= 0

ii. x – 4 = 0

⇒ x = 4

Hence, or x = 4
