Q8 of 31 Page 1

Success rate of artificial insemination in cattle is fairly low. Identify any other technique to improve the successful production of hybrids. State two advantages of this technique.

Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer Technology is a technique to improve production of hybrids.

In this method the cow is administered with follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) which induces maturation of follicles and super ovulation to produce 6 to 8 eggs. The cow is then mated or artificially inseminated. The fertilized eggs are then transferred to surrogate mother to produce improved variety.

Advantages:

i. It increases herd size.

ii. It takes shot span to produce hybrids.
