Q10 of 31 Page 1

Evaluate the effect of loss of biodiversity in a region. Mention any four such effects.

Biodiversity is the number, variety and various living organisms. It includes diversity within species (species are inbreeding group), between species, and between ecosystems.

Biodiversity loss is caused either by naturally or human-induced factor that directly or indirectly causes a change in an ecosystem.

The effects of loss of Biodiversity are:

i. Decreases in the plants and animal species due to loss of natural habits.

ii. Loss of biodiversity results in natural disaster such as drought.

iii. Increased variability in certain ecosystem processes such as plant productivity, water use, and pest and disease cycles.

iv. Due to the loss of natural habitat many species became endangered later may become extinct.
