The teenage son of Van Daans, Peter, is actually called up by the name Peter Van Pels. Formerly discovered by Anne as an indolent, loathsome, obnoxious and a delicate being, they later winded up on good terms. However, Peter doesn’t share his grounded convictions and beliefs with Anne. While in Annex, Anne develops a soft affection for him but is soon disappointed that Peter is aloof to religion and doesn’t care to improve himself. He is a passive being, who likes to remain average and common and relax in his comfortable domain. He isn’t passionate about taking the less traversed road in order to explore something novel. He lacks the interest to work hard for personal growth and improvement. And perhaps, his passivity is often the reason which makes him stop arguing with Anne and give up easily.
