The two reasons for the development of nationalism in the late 19th century were:

• The Britishers came to India with the view to exploiting the resources. In order to get hold of the resources, they imposed many taxes and rules among the people to keep Indians under control. This ultimately made Indians fight for their rights and establish Swaraj.

• The British government tried to suppress the right of the citizens of India by launching various oppressive rules like forcing people to grow commercial crops, imposing taxes, the monopoly of the industrial production, trading of the foreign goods, using India as the source of raw materials. All these reasons made people launch a movement in the late 19th century.
