Examine the methods adopted by the Indians during the Non-Cooperation Movement.

Non-Cooperation movement was Started by Mahatma Gandhiji in the year 1921. The methods adopted by the Indians were:

a. Movement in Towns: Middle-class students and employees left their respective institutions. Except for Madras, council elections were boycotted in almost all the provinces. A boycott of foreign goods and picketing of liquor shops took place. Foreign clothes were burnt in huge bonfires.

b. Movement in the Countryside: The movement in towns influenced the movement in the countryside. The peasants in Awadh were led by Baba Ramachandra, who had been to Fiji as an indentured labourer. He also formed the Oudh Kisaan Sabha in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru.

c. Movement in the Plantations: Post the Inland Emigration Act of 1859, plantation workers were barred from communicating with their near and dear ones. When they heard of the ongoing movement, they attempted to leave the plantations as a sign of protest. Sadly, they failed.
