Solve each of the following systems of equations by the method of cross–multiplication.

x – ay = b

ax – by = c

Given: the following systems of equations:

x – ay = b

ax – by = c

To find: The value of x and y

Explanation:

Method of cross multiplication

a1x + b1y + c1 = 0

a2x + b2y + c2 = 0

Here a1= 1 a2 = a

b1= –a b2 = – b

c1= b c2 = c

So, for the given system of equation:

Hence values of x and y are .
