Distinguish between rare and extinct species with examples.

rare species are uncommon or few in number. These are not found everywhere. It is not necessary that they may be endangered or threatened. Example: lion-tailed macaque is found in the silent valley of Kerala.

The species that no longer exists. When the last individual does the species is considered to be extinct. The reason could be a loss of habitat, climate change etc. Example: Dodo, West African black rhino.
