Q9 of 27 Page 2

Explain endemic species with examples.

Endemic species are plants and animals that could be found only in one geographic region. The areas could be large or small, some are endemic to a particular continent, some to part of a continent, and others to a single island.

These species evolve in a particular environment and get adapted to the region and hence are unsustainable if relocated to some other region.

Example: Asiatic Lion also known as the Indian lions are listed as endangered and only found in and around Gir Forest National Park of Gujarat.
