Q30 of 84 Page 322

Does the incident and emergent ray coincide in the process of refraction through glass slab? Give reason.

The incident ray and the emergent ray do not coincide they are parallel to each other. The emergent ray is shifted by some distance from the incident ray while passing throught the glass slab which is called the lateral displacement.

The figure below illustrates it.

A 5.0 cm tall object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal length 20 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 30 cm By calculation determine

(i) the position and

(ii) the size of the image formed.

A ray of light enters a diamond from air. If the refractive index of diamond is 2.42, what % (percentage) is speed of light in diamond with that of speed in air?

The image of an object place at 60 cm in front of a lens is obtained on a screen at a distance of 120 cm from it. Find the focal length of the lens. What would be the lens? What would be the height of the image? If the object is 5 cm high?
