How should one view the past?

One should view the past with sympathy and understanding if one is to really understand it with all its depths and eventful journey. One cannot view everything and everyone from a distance and make comparisons with the present time to judge the people of the times and era. Instead, one should try to view a person or an event with full consideration toward the environment, the living conditions, the ideas and advancements in those times to be able to understand history as it is.
