Q2 of 34 Page 134

Mrs. W: Why didn’t I think it? Why didn’t you think of it?

Mr. W: Think of what?

Mrs. W: The other two wishes.

i) What makes Mrs. White think about 'the other two wishes'?

ii) Do they use the two wishes? What was the consequence of their decision?

i) Mrs. White was devastated by the loss of her son. The idea that she can get him back using the monkey's paw made her think about the other two wishes.

ii) Yes, they did use the other two wishes. Out of them, the first wish resulted into the coming back of Herbert from dead in a decomposed state, and knocking their door, and the last wish made by Mr. White led to the stopping of the knocking at the door, which meant Herbert was dead again, and at peace. Their decision possibly caused a rift between the couple.
