ii) They are waiting for their son Herbert to be alive again because they had made a wish using the monkey's paw. According to Mrs. White, their first wish was granted and so this wish would be granted as well, but little did she know that she was asking for yet another danger in the possible form of Herbert's decomposed body coming back to life again.
