Microbes are utilized in multiple sectors. One of the sectors is agriculture and healthcare. Scientists are using many different microorganisms for producing SCP i.e. Single Cell Protein. Algae such as Spirulina and Chlorella are extensively used for this purpose. They serve as a good source of protein, minerals and carbohydrates. In fact SCPs have a very high protein content in dry mass, about 43-85%.
