Scientists tried to develop a single plant exhibiting the characteristic of tomato and potato by using cells from tomato and potato plants respectively, the procedure used is Grafting.

Process of Grafting:

1.Firstly, take the potato plant also known as stock. Now, cut the stem upto 1 inch and split the stem into a ‘V’ shape.

2.The tomato plant called the scion is also taken, cut the stem upto atleast 6-8 inches.

3. Shape the tomato as such, so as it fits into the ‘v ‘shape of the potato plant.

4. Now, place the potato stock into the tomato scion securely and wrap the graft area with the grafting tape.

5. After some time the tomato plant would show growth which would have the characteristics of both the plants.
