Examine the importance of ‘Lagoons and Backwaters’.

The coast line in India is vast with high indents in some states. This has led to the formation of lagoons and lakes in many regions. Some states in India like Kerala, Odisha and West Bengal have vast resources of surface water in the form of lakes and lagoons. These water are generally brackish but yet it is useful for fishing and irrigation of certain varieties of paddy crops, coconut etc.
