Two essential clinical steps to be undertaken before any organ transplant are matching of blood group and tissues.

Transplant is rejected sometimes because the body is able to identify the “self” and “non-self” tissues. The identification of “non-self” tissues triggers cell mediated immune response which causes rejection of transplanted organ.


Organ donation is a noble and important cause. Eye donation (cornea) can help a blind person get sight. Donating organs like heart, kidneys, lungs, liver can give life to others. It is important to discuss the mindset of the donor as well. Donating organs is still not taken up by most people due to the religious and emotional sentiments of the family with the donor. So, it is essential to discuss the implications of organ donations with the donor and their family.
